On Children’s Day, Honda educates 5,500 young kids about road safety

On the occasion of Children’s Day, Honda 2Wheelers India educated 5,500 young kids. This initiative of ‘Be Safe, Be Smart’ aimed to inculcate healthy road safety habits in children. The event saw over 5,500 participants aged between 6 to 15 years. All in all, Honda road safety instructors travelled across 19 towns and cities, covering over 42 schools. This includes Silchar, Imphal, Bhadohi, Etawah, Guwahati, Bhiwadi, Jamshedpur, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Ludhiana, Bhubaneswar, Thane, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Chennai and Trichy.

Honda 2Wheelers has always been on the front foot to bring in road safety events like these. The company has been doing this since 2001. And to date, Honda claims to have spread road safety awareness to over 41 lakh Indians. Alongside this, Honda 2Wheelers has also adopted ten traffic parks across India. On top of this, Honda 2Wheelers India has also set up 7 Safety Driving Education Centres.

Key Highlights Of The Events

Basic road safety knowledge about traffic lights was the most important topic in this event. This included traffic signs and markings like mandatory, cautionary and informative signs; yellow, white or double lines. The children were also made aware of safe pedestrian tips like crossing the road using the zebra crossing, walking in the opposite direction of traffic in the absence of pavement etc. Other tips included road sharing manners like sticking to your lane, use of bicycle tracks and footpaths by bicycle riders and pedestrians.

In addition to this, children learned about the importance of proper riding gear and seat belt that includes appropriate clothing, the importance of helmet and seat belt. Children centric road safety tips include safe cycling tips. Under this, the children learned about the proper use of brake, bell and tyre check, ensuring reflectors on cycles and more. Being school-going children, they were also made aware of safe commuting in school buses. Lastly, there was a list of simple do’s and don’ts like how to move in and out of a car, no aggression on roads and more.
