It seems that Ola is working on a helmet detection system for two wheelers. Despite being mandatory, many riders don’t wear helmets in India. Ola aims to tackle this by making sure that the Ola scooter rider wears a helmet compulsorily.
Ola’s Helmet detection system
Ola’s system for helmet detection will use a camera. This will check if the rider has worn a helmet or not. Based on this, the data is then relayed to the vehicle control unit. The VCU will in turn then relay it to the motor. If the helmet is not worn, the motor will not switch to ride mode.
In the situation that the scooter is already in the ride mode, the system will still monitor the rider. If it determines that no helmet is worn, there will be a warning on the dash and the electric scooter will go into park mode. In park mode, the scooter will tell the rider to wear a helmet. If the system determines that the rider wears a helmet, it will allow the scooter to come out from park mode and go to ride mode.
Ola’s upcoming new scooter
Ola Electric is planning to launch a new scooter soon. The company’s CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal shared a teaser image of the same. It appears that the scooter is a new variant of the S1 electric scooter. This scooter comes with what appears to be a wind deflector up front. This could be either a part of the scooter or an accessory as well. Further details are expected sometime in July 2023. Meanwhile, S1 Air deliveries are expected to start from July as well.
Meanwhile, the Ola S1 Air currently has a price tag of INR 1.10 lakh for the 3kWh option. This price includes the new FAME II subsidy amount. It gets a gets a range of 125 km on a full charge (Indian Driving Cycle) and a top speed of 85 km/h.
