Ola Electric is getting ready to launch its most affordable offering yet. The Ola S1X is set to be unveiled on 15 August 2023 and could be priced under INR 1 lakh, ex-showroom.
The most affordable scooter in the Ola line-up will be based on an all-new platform. This new generation platform will however share some components with the S1 Air. Similarities between the two could include front suspension components, steel wheels and braking hardware.
Overall, the design is similar to the current Ola range of scooters. It will get a twin-pod headlamp, flat seat and a wrap around tail lamp. Keeping costs low, the scooter might get a touchscreen unit with limited functions.
Ola will position this S1X as the entry-level option in the scooter line-up. With an expected price of under INR 1,00,000, the scooter could surely increase EV adoption and target traditional ICE scooters like Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and the likes.
Mechanical specifications along with motor and battery details have not yet been revealed.
Earlier this year, Ola discontinued the S1 variant. That leaves only the S1 Air and the S1 Pro options for customers to choose from. The mid-spec S1 scooter was offered in two variants – one with a 2kWh battery and the other with a 3kWh unit. The former was removed from the website as well a while back. The last known price was INR 99,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including FAME-II).
This is could mean that the new S1X could get a smaller 2 kWh battery pack with a lower range than the S1 Air and the S1 Pro scooters.
Today, customers can purchase the Ola S1 Air for INR 1.19 lakh, while the S1 Pro sells at INR 1.40 lakh. This means, customers can choose from the cheaper S1 Air or opt for the higher-end S1 Pro. The price difference of around INR 20,000 has negated the need for another scooter in between them.
