We are aware that the FAME-II subsidy has been slashed. And thus, the EV manufacturers will now slowly but steadily start to revise the prices of their products. Benagluru-based startup Ola Electric has announced its price hike details. The now revised prices of both the S1 and S1 Pro but prices for the entry-level S1 Air have not changed yet.
The mid-spec S1 scooter now has two variants, one with a 2kWh battery and the other with a 3kWh unit. The former is no longer listed on the website as we write this article. The last known price was INR 99,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru, including FAME-II).
The 3kWh variant of the S1 earlier retailed at INR 1.15 lakh and now the price for the same has been hiked by INR 15,000, to INR 1.30 lakh. The range-topping S1 Pro now costs INR 1.40 lakh, which makes it a price increase of INR 15,000 for Ola’s flagship e-scooter.
The entry-level S1 Air comes available in three variants with a 2kWh, 3kWh and 4kWh battery. These come with claimed IDC ranges of 85km, 125km and 165km, respectively. Prices for the respective variants continue to remain unchanged starting from INR 84,999, INR 99,999 and INR 1.10 lakh respectively.
With the FAME-II subsidy being slashed, Hero Electric announced its updated pricing. Despite this, Hero Electric did not hike its range across its range of products. They state that aggressive pricing is important to attract more customers. Thus, a sudden increase in pricing will act as a major deterrent for interested EV makers. Not just, Hero Electric and Ola, and a host of EV makers are now in the dilemma of how to work around this subsidy. Whether to hike the prices or continue with the same, we will wait and watch how EV makers react to this.
