Okinawa reveals ‘Cruiser’ electric maxi-scooter at Auto Expo 2020

Indian electric scooter manufacturing brand, Okinawa, has unveiled a new prototype scooter called ‘Cruiser’ at the Auto Expo 2020. Okinawa claims to be one of the first company’s to receive the Govt. of India’s FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacture of hybrid and Electric vehicles) approval as the Gurugram headquartered company manufactures all its products at their plant in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.  

The prototype maxi-scooter Cruiser features a 4 kWh lithium-ion battery which is detachable and can be charged at the user’s convenience. The scooter itself comes with a fast charger that can charge the electric scooter in 2 to 3 hours. The brand claims that the Cruiser can do a top speed on 100 kmph and has a claimed range of 120 km on a single charge. 

The Cruiser electric scooter that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020, features a maxi-scooter design language with large up-swept headlight, LED tail lights, raised handlebars, a small fly screen, aluminium finished control levers, disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, headlight integrated turn indicator lamps, a large and wide semi step-up seat, a glove compartment, grab rails, wide profile tyres, machine-finished alloy wheels and abstract body graphics. The showcased prototype looks production-ready and Okinawa is expected to carry forward all of the design elements as well as the electric powertrain into production. 

At their pavilion, the brand also showcased the Okinawa Lite, PraisePro and the Ridge+. Founded in 2015 the brand already has a strong portfolio of 8 scooters. The Okinawa Lite is one of the brands latest offerings which was launched a few months ago at the price of INR 59,990. The Okinawa Lite is targeted towards the younger audience and features a 250-watt BLDC waterproof electric motor that returns a range of about 50-60 km on a single charge. The electric motor is coupled to a 1.25 kWh lithium-ion battery and takes 4 to 5 hours to achieve a 100% state of charge. 

Okinawa also offers road-side assistance (RSA) on their electric scooter, which includes three free assistance, including two free towing services during the policy and one free towing for mechanical issues. The RSA includes onsite repair, towing assistance, Flat Tyre Assistance, Key Lockout Services, cab assistance, coordination in the removal of vehicles, telephone assistance etc.
