Electric mobility solutions company Okaya EV has launched a new 100% Made-In-India electric scooter, Freedum. The Okaya Freedum electric scooter comes with a starting price of INR 69,900 and is available in four variants. The scooter is the brand’s third launch since the company made its debut in the Indian market in July 2021. The brand’s first two products are AvionIQ and ClassIQ.
Okaya will produce the Freedum electric scooter at the brand’s Baddi manufacturing plant in Himachal Pradesh. With 100% localisation, Okaya can keep the prices low and meet the Make in India initiative. The brand will also meet the gaps in the existing Electric Two-Wheeler Industry with the Okaya Freedum.
Okaya will launch the Freedum electric scooter in four variants. The brand has also announced that the Freedum will be available starting with Low-Speed e-Scooters for select markets. The company will then launch High Speed, High Range scooters offering more than 250 km per charge capacity in the coming months. Currently, the Okaya Freedum is available in Freedum Li2 and Freedum La2 options. The former is a lithium-ion battery-powered scooter, while the latter comes with a VRLA Lead Acid battery.
The Okaya Freedum Li2 comes with a 250W BLDC Hub motor that pairs with a 48V 30Ah Lithium-Ion battery. The Li2 variant can achieve a top speed of 25 kmph and features a range of 70-80 km on a single charge. The scooter takes 4 to 5 hours to recharge. The Okaya Freedum La2 comes with a 250W BLDC Hub motor that pairs with a 48V 28Ah VRLA (C20) lead-acid battery. The La2 variant can achieve a top speed of 25 kmph and returns a range of 50-60 km per charge. The battery takes 8 to 10 hours to recharge.
Okaya has revealed that the brand plans to offer “accessible, value for money, clean energy mobility to every Indian.” Therefore Okaya plans to introduce fourteen new products in the financial year. Okaya intends to roll out specialised B2B vehicles developed in accordance with the requirements of delivery-based businesses. The brand will also introduce a new electric motorcycle in the near future. The company is also building its dealer network with 120 dealerships already available in under two months and another 800 on the way.
