In what is a big breakthrough for Indian motorsports fans, MotoGP is coming to India. And it’s coming sooner than you’d expect. We’re talking as early as 2023. According to sources, an official announcement will likely take place on 21st September 2022. We will also likely see the top officials from MotoGP organisers, Dorna, at the special event.
This will be a big development for Indian motorsport, with MotoGP arriving a decade after Formula 1 made its debut. Noida-based FairStreet Sports are bringing the MotoGP to India. It is important to note that many details are not yet final. We will soon find out about all the details with an announcement next week.
The event will also see Dorna Motorsports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta in attendance. Apart from the premiere class race, the race weekend will also include Moto3 and Moto2 rounds taking place over the weekend. MotoE will also be a part of the racing weekend. Furthermore, reports suggest that the MotoE round could take place as early as late 2022.
The Indian round of MotoGP will take place on the only FIA Grade 1 race track in the country, Buddh International Circuit. However, it is unclear when the Indian Grand Prix will take place on the 2023 MotoGP calendar. Given India’s extreme heat conditions, it will also be interesting to see if Dorna Motorsports decides on a night race at the race track in Greater Noida. We’ll have to wait for all the details, but we can’t help but speculate. That said, the MotoGP event will also be a major opportunity for businesses. We could see a lot of international riding gear and helmet brands make their way to India through the event.
