With a very cold start-off in the market, it seemed like Tata Motors hasn’t got it quite right with the Zest. But things look a little positive now since the Zest has managed to outsell the Honda Amaze with respect to October 2014 domestic sales.
Honda managed to sell 3,482 units of the Amaze compact sedan in October ’14 while Tata outnumbered the Japanese competitor by 42 units. Tata managed to sell 3,524 units of the Zest in October ’14. This gives Tata the third position in the compact sedan market. The top two are still far away with 4,629 units of the Hyundai Xcent and 17,950 units of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
Although the advantage is marginal, this will surely give Tata Motors a boost to pitch their product a little more since there is definite interest customers are showing.
The Zest was launched with plenty of segment best / first features such as a diesel engine + AMT, turbocharged petrol engine, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, touchscreen infotainment system, alloy wheels as standard etc. which make it a very good value proposition.
