No buyers for Ather Halo smart helmet? Price cut by INR 3,000

Ather Energy recently announced a significant price reduction for its Halo smart helmet. Initially launched at an introductory price of INR 12,999, the helmet’s cost has now been slashed by INR 3,000, bringing it down to INR 9,999. This move comes amid reports of sluggish sales and a lack of consumer interest.

Launch and Features

The Ather Halo smart helmet was unveiled during the Ather Community Day in April 2024. It was introduced as a high-tech accessory designed to complement Ather’s range of electric scooters. The helmet boasts several advanced features, including:

  • WearDetect Technology: Automatically turns on and connects to the rider’s mobile phone when worn.
  • Integrated Harman Kardon Speakers: Allows riders to listen to music and take calls on the go.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity: Syncs with the Ather electric scooter and the rider’s smartphone.
  • Wireless Charging: Can be charged using the under-seat storage charging option on the Ather Rizta.
  • ISI and DOT Certification: Ensures safety and compliance with industry standards.

Despite these innovative features, the helmet has struggled to attract buyers. One of the reasons cited is the lack of ECE certification, which is a crucial safety standard for many consumers.

Market Response and Price Adjustment

The initial response to the Halo smart helmet was lukewarm. Although it was priced competitively at INR 12,999, the market did not respond as expected. To boost sales, Ather Energy decided to offer a discount of INR 3,000 for early bird customers, reducing the price to INR 9,999. This price cut aims to make the helmet more appealing to potential buyers who may have been deterred by the initial cost.

Challenges and Future Prospects

Several factors have contributed to the slow uptake of the Halo smart helmet. Firstly, the helmet market is highly competitive, with numerous brands offering similar features at lower prices. Additionally, the absence of ECE certification has made some consumers hesitant to invest in the Halo helmet.

Ather Energy is optimistic that the price reduction will stimulate interest and drive sales. The company has also begun rolling out the new Halo helmets from its facility, ensuring that deliveries are underway. As the market for electric vehicles and smart accessories continues to grow, Ather Energy hopes that the Halo smart helmet will eventually find its niche.
