Nissan’s new SUV for India spotted, debuts next week

Written by Kanad Kalasur

It appears that Nissan is gearing up to launch a new SUV in India next week. If the spy shots are to be believed, the Japanese carmaker may be bringing back the X-Trail SUV. A Nissan event is scheduled for 18th October.

Despite being a famous brand worldwide, Nissan hasn’t had much success in India. Currently, it sells only the Kicks and the Magnite SUVs along with the GT-R. The Magnite sells around 3,000 units monthly, while the Kicks stand at about 100 units monthly. The GT-R is mostly a halo product with single-digit sales per year.

Could this car be the new X-Trail?

As per the spy shots, the SUV is under heavy camouflage. The SUV can be identified as a Nissan product from the V-motion grille design and the oval logo. Analysing the headlight shape, side profile, and the alloy wheel design reveals that the car resembles the X-Trail sold abroad.

X-Trail design

In the US market, the X-Trail is sold under the Rogue brand. The new X-Trail gets a large chrome insert on the V-motion grille, L-shaped LED daytime running lights and trapezoidal headlamp clusters that are positioned lower down on the bumper. A hexagonal air dam is housed in the front bumper, and a silver skid plate sits lower. At the back, the SUV has tail lights with sharp cuts and a dual-tone bumper black and silver bumper. The X-Trail also gets a large sunroof and silver roof rails.

Stepping inside the car, one is greeted with a dual-tone black and brown interior. The dashboard is dominated by a large head unit / infotainment screen. It has a 3-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster.

X-Train Engine & Transmission

In the US, the Rogue is powered by a 3-cylinder turbocharged 1.5-litre engine rated at 201 BHP and is mated with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Power is sent to the front wheels as standard, but owners can opt for the optional all-wheel drive system.
It is not yet sure which engine and gearbox combination could be offered in India.
