Nissan has announced plans to launch its flagship SUV, the Nissan Patrol, in India by 2026. This move is part of Nissan’s strategy to expand its presence in the Indian market with premium offerings. The Patrol, known for its robust build and luxurious features, is expected to compete with other high-end SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The upcoming Patrol will be part of the Y63 generation, which has been redesigned to cater to global markets. It will be offered with two petrol V6 engine options: a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated unit and a more powerful 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged variant. The India-spec model is likely to feature the twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 419 bhp and 700 Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The Nissan Patrol is expected to be positioned as a halo product for the brand in India. With a price tag anticipated to exceed INR 1 crore (ex-showroom), the SUV will cater to the premium segment of the market. Nissan aims to enhance its brand image and desirability by offering a high-performance, luxurious SUV that can compete with established rivals.
Nissan has previously explored the possibility of launching the Patrol in India, conducting customer clinics to gauge interest. The feedback from these clinics has been positive, indicating a strong demand for a premium SUV with advanced features and robust performance. The company is now confident in the Patrol’s potential success in the Indian market.
The Nissan Patrol will face stiff competition from other premium SUVs in the Indian market, including the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Both vehicles are known for their off-road capabilities and luxurious interiors, making them popular choices among affluent buyers. Nissan’s decision to launch the Patrol is seen as a strategic move to capture a share of this lucrative segment.
