Nissan Motor Company has unveiled plans to introduce its next-generation ProPILOT autonomous driving technology in fiscal year 2027. This cutting-edge system aims to set new benchmarks in safety, intelligence, and collision avoidance, leveraging advanced artificial intelligence and sensor technology.

New Nissan tech

The next-gen ProPILOT system will feature Nissan’s proprietary Ground Truth Perception technology, which combines next-generation LiDAR sensors, radar, and cameras to create a highly accurate understanding of the vehicle’s surroundings. This setup enables the system to detect and respond to potential hazards with unprecedented precision, even in complex urban environments.

A key component of the system is the integration of Wayve AI Driver software, developed by UK-based AI company Wayve. The software is built on an embodied AI foundation model, designed to mimic human learning processes. By analyzing vast amounts of real-world driving data, the system can adapt to new and unpredictable scenarios, ensuring continuous improvement and reliability.

The ProPILOT technology will also include advanced features like Emergency Immediate Danger Avoidance, automatic lane changes, and hard braking to prevent collisions. These capabilities are supported by a suite of sensors, including front cameras, long-range rear radars, and nine surrounding cameras, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the vehicle’s surroundings.

When will Nissan roll it out?

Nissan’s next-gen autonomous driving system is expected to debut in select models by 2027, targeting markets with stringent safety and emission standards. The technology will be a significant step forward in Nissan’s vision for sustainable mobility and intelligent transportation.
