Setting pace to Nissan’s plans of launching 12 new models in 18 months Nissan has introduced the Nissan Ariya, an All-New Pure-Electric SUV in a global world premiere held in a digital event from Yokohama, Japan achieving a key milestone in the brand’s NEXT transformation plan. The Nissan Ariya crossover SUV is in-line with the brand’s commitment to fulfilling customer demands of new electrified, autonomous and connected technologies.

On the exterior, the Nissan Ariya enfolds the Japanese term ‘Iki’, that features a seamless closed grille with a smooth surface incorporating a 3D traditional Japanese Kumiko pattern which hides ProPILOT functions and Intelligent Key detection underneath. The centre part of the shield features a new 20-LED Nissan logo with LED daytime running lights that flank its sides, quad 20-millimetre mini-projectors LED headlamps incorporated into a sleek sweptback headlamp unit combined with sequential turn indicator lamps.

On the profile, the Nissan Ariya features a sleek roofline 19-inch 5-spoke aluminium rims with aerodynamic air curtain design upgradable to 20-inches, an uninterrupted shoulder line connecting the front to the rear, a steeply raked C-pillar that blends with the rear deck, a single piece LED tail lamp unit with blacked-out effect encompassing the rear, flared rear fenders, a high mounted roof-integrated spoiler, dual shark-fin antennas and geometrical rear bumpers.

The interiors of the Nissan Ariya embrace the Japanese term ‘Ma’ which refers to SpaceTime and the cabin features a minimalist approach with a starship-inspired wraparound dashboard fascia and an obstruction-less transmission tunnel. The Nissan Ariya also comes with a flat, open floor as the batteries are tucked at the base of the chassis allowing large amounts of legroom in both rows.

The dashboard offers a minimalistic design with the primary climate control functions integrated into the wooden centre dash in the form of capacitive haptic switches, above the climate control are twin displays, a 12.3-inch instrument monitor and 12.3-inch centre display set on the same horizontal plane with connected features and voice command capabilities and it can display multiple facets of information such as battery information, range and navigation, can be easily reached and scrolled through with a simple swipe. The Nissan Ariya also boasts one of the largest full-colour HUD (Heads Up Display) in the segment.

The Nissan Ariya also features ProPILOT 2.0 advanced driver assistance and ProPILOT Remote Park. The ProPILOT 2.0 uses the navigation system and high-definition 3-D map data to detect the road surface, direction and speed limits, adjusting vehicle speed accordingly for a safe and trouble-free journey. The system employs seven cameras, five millimetre-wave radars and 12 ultrasonic sonar sensors detect lane markers and objects around the vehicle, allowing hands-off single-lane driving along a predefined route, keeping with the flow of traffic.

The Nissan Ariya will be launched in two models a 2WD (two-wheel-drive) and a 4WD (four-wheel-drive) along with two battery capacities each a 63kWh and a long-range 87kWh with an electric motor output ranging from 160kW to 290 kW depending on the model and torque ranging from 300 Nm on the 2WD models to 600 Nm on the 4WD models.
