Nissan Terrano AWD inching closer to launch?

We shared an article back in October 2014 that Nissan will launch an AWD variant of the Terrano SUV in 2015. Now, reports on the internet (IAB) suggest that the 4×4 variant is inching closer to a market debut.

Powering the Terrano AWD will be the same 1.5 dCi THP (K9K) diesel engine producing 110 PS of power @ 4,000 RPM and 245 Nm of torque @ 1,750 RPM. Engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with shift-on-fly 4×4 technology.

Unique features on the AWD variant:

  • Hill start assist
  • ESP + ASR + Understeer control
  • Speed sensitive auto door lock
  • Impact sensing auto door unlock
  • Rapid deceleration warning
  • Front and rear skid plates
  • Different alloy wheels
  • New seat upholstery
  • Body decals

It would be great if Nissan opts to offer additional features on the Terrano apart from the list mentioned above, much like what they introduced in the Anniversary Edition. This would allow Nissan to differentiate the Terrano AWD from the Renault Duster AWD much better.

Sales of the Terrano have dropped significantly in the last month and Nissan needs to create some buzz around the product again to keep it amongst the list of new cars being considered.

Expect pricing of the AWD variant to be higher by ~ Rs. 1 lakh over the regular 4×2 variant.
