Nissan Qashqai was recently showcased for the Indian market. We understand, Nissan is clearly looking at launching the product here. In fact, recently it was spied testing with heavy camouflage. Thus, we can conclude that the Japanese carmaker is currently evaluating the launch of this SUV in our country.
Along with the Qashqai, the carmaker showcased the Juke and the X-Trail to their dealer partners and the media. Out of the three, as of now, Nissan has officially confirmed to launch the Nissan X-Trail in India launch. Although it will come in as a CBU. But the other two models, namely, Qashqai and Juke are being studied for their feasibility in the Indian market.
The 5-seater Nissan Qashqai positions itself below the X-Trail in the international market. It locks its horns against the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, etc.
Qashqai uses a 1.3-liter turbo petrol mild hybrid engine. The power output figure of the motor reads 156 HP and gets two two gearbox options. These are a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. Qashqai is also available with an e-Power which is a 1.5-liter E-Power strong-hybrid motor. This unit makes 190 HP of power and 330 Nm of torque.
If launched in India, the Qashqai will also come in via the CBU route. Thus, Nissan will have to price it at a premium. So, it could be a pretty expensive offer with an expected price of INR 30-35 lakhs (ex-showroom). With this price tag, Nissan will find it very difficult to compete against the likes of other SUVs on sale. This includes the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and likes.
With the growing demand for SUVs, the competition is quite fierce. India is a price-sensitive market, and the price tag plays a very crucial role. Thus, for a product to do well, Nissan has to first price the Qashqai very aggressively to stand a chance to compete against the other options.
