Nissan planning new SUV, Infiniti and GT-R for India

Reports suggest that Nissan is planning to enter the luxury car space in India, and also bring down their sportscar GT-R. It was also revealed that the company is planning to introduce a new SUV in the near future.

To fight in the luxury car segment, Nissan plans to introduce Infiniti to India. Nissan is also planning to enter local production for the same to achieve significant cost advantage. The premium Nissan Teana has now worked as the brand would have expected and is a slow moving product. Bringing down something with a different and much more premium brand like Infiniti might click in the market. Infiniti cars will be imported in CKD kits and then assembled locally. The company plans to sell 2,000 cars annually if all goes well.

GT-R on the other hand will remain a CBU sighting low demand.

The new SUV in discussion is from the entry level brand, Datsun. The SUV will be targeted against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Mahindra Quanto etc. and can be expected to hit the streets in two years or so.
