Nissan had struggled for a long time with their products here in the Indian market, but seems like the Magnite compact-SUV is all set to change the brands fortunes. Launched in December 2020, the Nissan Magnite has become a blockbuster hit in the cost conscious Indian car market and waiting periods are unusually long for brand Nissan. While some would have thought it might not be worth it to wait that long, seems like Nissan will probably hold on to the interested buyer easily with this bit of news.
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has revealed that the Nissan Magnite has secured a 4-star crash test rating and the full details of this result will be revealed soon. This overall score of 4-stars is fantastic and could be a trump card in the segment for the brand. What could be even better news is the way ASEAN NCAP selects models for these crash tests. The authority reveals that they opt for the most basic model with the least safety equipment on offer for their crash tests, and this highlights that even the most affordable model of the Magnite could be secure enough to keep passengers SAFE.
With this, the Nissan Magnite would join the top ranking SAFE SUVs in the compact-SUV segment which includes the Mahindra XUV300 & Tata Nexon.
Launched in December 2020, the Nissan Magnite was priced between INR 4,99,000 to INR 9,59,00 ex-showroom with the tech-pack asking for an additional INR 38,698. However, these prices were introductory and only valid till the 31st of December 2020 as Nissan is all set to hike the prices by 5% across their portfolio. Even with the new effective price, the Magnite will be an affordable compact-SUV for our market as it was initially imagined as a cost effective Datsun model but eventually decided to wear the Nissan badge.
Nissan reveals that more than 60% of bookings for the Magnite are for the top 2 variants, nearly 30% of the buyers are opting for the CVT automatic gearbox and more than 40% bookings were made online. Time will tell how Nissan will fare in the Indian market with this compact-SUV driving some much needed demand.
