As per reports, Nissan India has temporarily stopped taking bookings of the Kicks SUV. We believe this is applicable not only to the online booking platform but also to the dealership level.
At present, the only Nissan vehicle on sale and for booking on the carmaker’s official website is the Magnite. Nissan Kicks never really took off. The SUV had very low sales figures throughout 2022. These abysmal sales figures also indicate that Nissan has not manufactured any units of the Kicks in the last two months. Kicks was an overall good product but it seems like the Indian customers never had the taste for it. With a higher price tag and an eccentric outlook, Kicks was never the choice amongst the other SUVs in the market.
Magnite is now the sole bread earner for the Japanese carmaker. This compact sedan is doing pretty well in terms of sales, and the future looks promising for Nissan. But, you can’t just rely on a single product, that too in a competitive market in India. Thus, Nissan might just have some plans to bring in more products.
Recently Nissan announced the X-Trail hybrid SUV for India. And we believe the carmaker will bring in the SUV later this year. However, Nissan’s business will get a major push in 2024. It will bring in two D-segment SUVs and a Nissan badged version of the Renault Triber MPV. The D-SUVs will most likely be derivatives of the next-gen Renault Duster, under Nissan’s alliance with the French automaker.
Given the rising demand for SUVs in the market, these new products could change the fortunes of Nissan India. With the market completely shifting towards SUVs, almost all carmakers are now inclined towards R&D in the segment. Thus, bringing in new products, especially in the SUV segment could prove crucial for Nissan India in the long run.
