Nissan considering Juke launch in India

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Nissan showcased likely candidates for a launch in the Indian market today. One of these was the Juke.

The 2nd-generation Juke is a funky, curvy car that can have a lot of polarising opinions based on its looks. That is, love it or hate it, you can’t miss it. It is definitely a head-turner. In a sea of boring-looking cars, this could be the one that makes it popular with buyers who are looking for something different.

In terms of dimensions, it measures 4.2 meters in length, putting it at par with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Kia Seltos etc. Still, the Juke is positioned very differently in overseas markets. That said, what differentiates the Juke is its strong hybrid powertrain. Powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, it is likely to offer good fuel efficiency.

Hottest selling car segment in India

The hottest-selling segment in the Indian market is the SUV segment. Right from sub 4m to sub 4.5m all the way up to full-size SUVs, every manufacturer is trying to get a piece of this pie. Nissan is no different. Launching SUVs could be the game changer for the Japanese carmaker. Nissan Magnite is doing well for the company, and the carmaker might be trying to replicate its success in other segments.

Nissan Juke platform

Based on an all-new CMF-B platform, the Nissan Juke shares underpinnings with the 2nd-generation Renault Captur and the 5th-generation Renault Clio. This new platform consists of a high usage of high-strength steel leading to a weight reduction of 23 kg compared to the first-generation Juke.

Initially offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, 2020 saw the introduction of the 1.6-litre strong hybrid powertrain.

While the car didn’t set the sales charts on fire, it was the 2nd highest-selling model from the Nissan stable after the Qashqai in the European market.
