NHAI to stop toll collection at National Highways across India during lockdown

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many countries to a complete standstill and the infection has spread to around 170 countries with India in the top 50 most affected countries in the world with nearly 750 reported cases. The Government of India to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases and stop the spread of the Corona Virus issued a nation-wide lockdown for a period of at least 21 days with effect from 25th of March 2020. 

According to a media report, the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) was issued a letter from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to stop toll collection during the 21 days lockdown period. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also issued an advisory to shut down all commercial and private establishments during the lockdown period for containment of the epidemic. 

Ministry of Home Affairs also directed that all transport services including road, rail and air will be suspended during the lockdown period with the only exemption for emergency services, law & order, fire and essential goods. 

Even during the lockdown COVID-19 cases have gradually increased in the country and the Government of India urges its citizen and residents to stay at home during the lockdown period for their own safety and safety of others.

To help protect yourself from COVID-19 practice social distancing, avoid public places, avoid touching pets, wash hands regularly with soap and water, keep cleanliness and in the inevitable situation where one needs to use a vehicle to buy groceries, medicines and daily essentials sanitise the interiors of your car and frequently touched points with soap & water or an alcohol-based rub to avoid infection. 

In case if you feel sick, get in touch with your local healthcare provider, monitor your symptoms, avoid contact with others, avoid going to public places, use a separate bathroom if possible and follow the instructions given by health care personnel.
