Next-gen Superb for India will be a CBU only

Skoda is likely to bring the fourth-generation Superb to the Indian market soon to India. The premium executive sedan is currently sold with a price tag of INR 54 lakh ex-showroom. Currently, in India the Skoda Superb comes via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route. Reports further reveal that Skoda could be planning to bring even the fourth-generation Superb as a CBU import unit and not as a CKD (Completely Knock-Down) kit, assembled in India. This leads us to believe that the next-gen Skoda Superb may get a bump in its price tag.

Skoda Superb Production Plant

According to reports, Skoda has shifted the production of the Superb sedan to its Bratislava manufacturing plant from Kvasiny, Czechia. Now, the Superb will be built alongside the Volkswagen Passat, and thanks to this, the manufacturing of both the vehicles is likely to get streamlined. However, the Bratislava factory also does not have a facility to produce CKD kits, and to build the ecosystem calls for too much investment which is not feasible for supply in one market. Also, the move will increase the production capacity of the Octavia as well as the Czech brand’s electric vehicles at the Kvasiny production facility.

Will Skoda Superb Come with Diesel Engine in India?

However, as a CBU import, Skoda could possibly bring the Superb with a diesel engine. The engine is likely to be a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TDI producing 150 PS of power and 360 Nm of torque matched to a 7-speed DSG transmission. In addition to this, the brand is likely to bring the Superb with only a single Laurin & Klement (L&K) top-spec trim.

Will the Skoda Superb be a Viable Product in India?

But as a CBU import, will the Skoda Superb in its 4th-generation, which recently made its debut in the international market, become unviable in a price sensitive market like ours? Or, will it find buyers looking for a premium executive sedan with a diesel engine? The question remain.
