Citroen C5 Aircross new generation – what to expect?

As seen in the leaked design photos, the upcoming C5 Aircross is looking completely different from the current model. It is based on the new STLA Medium platform and the design looks inspired from the Oli concept which was shown in 2022.

The upcoming generation model will also be longer and bigger in size as the reports suggest. The concept model is 150 mm longer than the current version, thus, indicating that the cabin will be a lot more spacious than the current car.

Another interesting bit to note is the design that is based on a mixture of curvy, chiselled body panels meshed with sharp elements like the DRLs and cubical LED headlights. While the front fascia looks aggressive, the side and rear profile are more elegant and in order with Citroen’s current design language.

On the rear, the key highlights include the signature C-shaped LED taillights and a redesigned boot with new dual-tone bumpers. The design images also show that the production-spec model will not have flush-type doors like the concept model.

While there are no details available regarding the cabin design, we suspect a complete overhaul including a new dashboard, new seats, and advanced features.

Powering the new-gen model will be a petrol-hybrid ICE motor and an all-electric drivetrain as well. However, no details are available about the powertrain currently.

Citroen is expected to debut the new-gen C5 Aircross globally by the end of this year. The new-gen car will likely land on the Indian shores; but only in the 2026 second half.

Our verdict

The C5 Aircross is regarded as a comfortable urban cruiser model in the global markets. However, Citroen’s irrelevant price strategy and selling an outdated model did not work in India. Now, as the new design images leaked, Citroen has a chance to revive the C5 in India with the launch of the new-gen model; only if correctly priced.
