New Toyota Corolla cars coming to India?

We have some interesting updates from Toyota. As per reports, the Japanese carmaker is looking at expanding its SUV range in India. We understand Toyota might have plans to bring in a larger SUV based on the Corolla Cross. Once launched, this will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian and likes.

Toyota Corolla Cross Platform Details

Interestingly enough, the Corolla Cross-based SUV shares its platform with the Innova Hycross. This means it will share a host of components and powertrains with the Innova Hycross. This platform is Toyota’s middle-of-the-road TNGA-C (or GA-C). Toyota is likely to use fold-flat seats on the floor, just as seen on the Hycross. In addition to this, we also expect the Corolla Cross to get an electrically operated tailgate.

Toyota Corolla Cross Engine Options Available

We know that the Corolla Cross is usually sold with a 1.8-litre petrol engine. But with this longer Corolla Cross, we expect Toyota to use the same set of engines on the Innova Hycross. Thus chances are high that Toyota will use the 2.0-litre M20A-FKS petrol and the 2.0-litre M20A-FXS strong hybrid for the Corolla Cross as well. The strong hybrid system should provide this SUV with an efficiency advantage over its rivals, diesel included.

Toyota Is A Big Name In The Indian Market

Toyota is a big name in the Indian market. Specifically, its SUV range has been accepted by Indian customers pretty well. The brand’s strong presence in the SUV segment and reputation for making rugged and reliable SUVs will do a lot of good for the brand. The key takeaway from Toyota’s brand is its bulletproof reliability. As for its price tag, Corolla Cross will retail with a very high price tag. And we assume it might also become the costliest among all other rivals. Still, the Toyota brand value is enough to attract a wide range of audiences.
