Written by Nizam Shaikh

The new Suzuki Swift has received 3-stars out of a total 5 at the Euro New Car Assessment Programme. The fourth-generation Swift for the European market is made in Japan and comes with 6-airbags as well as ADAS as standard. At the Euro NCAP the 4th generation Swift got 67 % for Adult Occupant Protection, 65% for Child Occupant Protection, 76% for vulnerable road users and 62% for safety assistance.

Safety Features

The 2024 Suzuki Swift with LHD and a 1.2-litre petrol engine was chosen for the crash test. The hatchback was equipped with standard safety features including frontal airbag, seatbelt pretensioner and load limiter, side head airbag, side chest airbag, side pelvis airbag ISOFIX on the rear seats, airbag cut-off switch and seat belt reminder. In addition to this, the Swift also comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for vulnerable road users, motorcyclists and in case of a car-to-car. The Swift in Europe also comes with speed assistance system, Lane Assist and Fatigue/Distraction Detection, all as standard.

Adult and Child Occupant Protection

The crash test result reveals that the driver and front passenger were offered good protection at the frontal offset test. Also, the compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test. However, protection offered to the driver’s chest was weak and the passenger was marginal. The child occupants get adequate protection to the head while the chest and neck receive poor protection.

Safety Systems

The Suzuki Swift also offers adequate performance on its autonomous emergency braking system. But, Euro NCAP reveals that the response to car-to-car was rated poor. The Swift also features seat belt reminder for the front seats, occupant detection for the rear seat is missing, slashing point for the Swift. But the car scored good in terms of protection to vulnerable road users which includes pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. The AEB performance was good for cyclists and adequate for pedestrians.
