At a recent press conference, Skoda announced that the brand will soon be launching a new compact-SUV in the Indian market. The brand also revealed that the compact-SUV will be using the MQB-A0-IN platform. In addition to this, Volkswagen will also add the compact-SUV in its portfolio under the partnership.
Now, a compact-SUV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, leading to speculation that the Skoda’s compact-SUV is nearing production. According to sources, its being tested under the Volkswagen moniker, however, the sneak peek of the camouflaged vehicle does not reveal much.
Another theory suggests that the Skoda-Volkswagen SUV under trail is not the new compact SUV at all. According to another media report, the SUV is likely to be the facelift Taigun. Volkswagen has been retailing the SUV in the Indian market since 2021 and this could be the updated version of the car.
Spyshots reveal a C-shape tail lamp signature which leads us to the speculation, that this could be the Taigun. It is also too early to spot a test mule of the Skoda-Volkswagen SUV on the road. Recently, the brand also confirmed that it will be soon introducing the facelift model Kushaq, which is Taiwan’s counterpart.
The brand also revealed that the Kushaq facelift will come with ADAS and 360-degree camera to improve the safety quotient of the SUV and to keep up with the new norms and competition. Volkswagen could be using a similar strategy to keep its models updated and relevant in the Indian market.
With a mid-cycle update, the new Taigun is likely to receive a slightly refreshed front and rear as well as ADAS and 360-degree camera support. In addition to this, also expect rear disc brakes and a panoramic sunroof. However, the powertrain options are likely to remain the same.
