New Renault Duster based Nissan SUV could be more premium?

The new Renault Duster has been revealed in the international markets already. It is set to debut in the Indian market early next year. The launch of the Duster will be followed by a Nissan SUV based on the same platform.

Nissan-Renault Platform Sharing

It is not news that Nissan and Renault have been sharing the same platform for their products. We already have the Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite which are based on the same platform. In fact, the old Renault Duster also shared its platform with the Nissan Terrano. The Terrano was a more premium version of the Renault Duster. Keeping that in mind, it is quite possible that the upcoming version of the Duster-based Nissan SUV might be more premium than the Duster itself. It remains to be seen if the name Terrano will be carried to this next-gen SUV.

What we know?

Design-wise, the new Nissan SUV will draw inspiration from the Dacia Bigster concept that debuted in early 2021. The third-generation Renault Duster’s design cues will be evident, but with a distinct Nissan flair that promises to captivate the market.

Under the hood, the new SUV will feature a petrol-only engine lineup, reflecting the industry’s gradual shift towards cleaner fuel options. This strategic decision also aligns with the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s commitment to offering highly localized products for the Indian market, ensuring competitive pricing without compromising on quality. There will however be three engine options to choose from. A 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, a 1.0L turbo and a 1.3L turbo mill. Nissan will get only the latter two.  There could also be a Bigster inspired 7-seater that could come at a later stage.

The upcoming Nissan SUV is expected to rival established names like Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate. Prices are expected to start at INR 9.99 lakh and will go up to 16 lakh ex-showroom.
