Ola Electric has announced the upcoming launch of its new electric scooters based on the Gen-3 platform, set to debut in January 2025. This new platform is expected to bring significant technological advancements and cater to both mass-market and premium customers.
Technological Innovations
The Gen-3 platform introduces several features, including the integration of the motor and battery into a unified unit, which optimizes efficiency and reduces vehicle weight. The platform will feature a magnetless motor with magnetized electrical coils, offering higher torque and improved efficiency. Additionally, the battery pack will be used as a structural component, enhancing the platform’s rigidity and balance.
New Ola electric scooter Performance and Range
Ola Electric anticipates a 26% performance increase and a 22.5% cost reduction with the Gen-3 platform compared to previous generations. The new scooters will come with advanced Battery Management Systems and Motor Control Units, further optimizing the vehicle’s architecture. The company aims to provide fast charging capabilities and extended battery range to meet the growing demand for electric two-wheelers in India.
New Sub-Brands and Models
The Gen-3 platform will underpin two new sub-brands: S2 and S3. The S2 series will include three models: City for urban commuting, Tourer for long-distance rides, and Sports for performance enthusiasts. The S3 series will target the premium segment with two maxi-scooters: Grand Adventure and Grand Tourer, focusing on luxury and high performance.
Market Expansion
Ola Electric plans to expand its distribution network from 782 stores to 2,000 by March 2025. The company also aims to introduce 20 new products over the next few years, with at least one new product being launched quarterly. This expansion is part of Ola’s strategy to increase its market share in the electric two-wheeler segment and enhance customer satisfaction through timely product availability.
Our Thoughts
While it is good news that Ola Electric is taking the initiative to introduce competitve products in the market, there are not signs of corrective measures for the issue and challenges the company is facing day after day. Ola should first work on resolving all the pending issues with their current product line and dealership network.
