Mercedes-Benz has shared images of the upcoming next-generation GLC SUV. The car was spotted on Indian roads ahead of its launch. The test mule had some camouflage on it.
In terms of design, the new GLC SUV takes an evolution from the outgoing model. It gets a clean and simple design with an inoffensive styling. The front gets minor changes with new LED headlamps, a new design grille and a reworked bumper.
At the back, the new GLC gets slim two-piece LED tail lamps and dual exhaust tips finished in chrome.
In terms of size, the new GLC is now wider in both the front and rear tracks compared to the older car. Further, the wheelbase has been slightly increased as well. That said, the overall width of the car is the same as before.
The interiors are expected to get a design inspired from the premium S-Class. This includes a 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver. The infotainment system runs on Mercedes’ latest MBUX version.
In the international markets, the new GLC gets a choice of petrol or diesel engine. Both are 4-cylinder units while there is a plug in hybrid as well. However, in India, Mercedes-Benz is likely to launch with a 2.0-litre petrol in GLC 200 trim with 204 HP and 320 Nm. Meanwhile, the diesel could be a 197 HP and 440 Nm 2.0-litre diesel in GLC 220d trim. These could get a 48V mild hybrid system as well. Transmission duties could be handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The updated Mercedes-Benz GLC will take on the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. Dealerships have started taking unofficial bookings and the car is slated to be launched in August 2023.
