German automotive manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will soon introduce the 2022 W206 C-class sedan in India. Mercedes launched the W206 for international markets in mid-2021 and plans to bring it to Indian showrooms by May 2022. Recently, the brand announced its plans of introducing the Maybach S 580 luxury sedan and expanding its Indian retail network. The fifth-generation C-class now features a brand new interior design with equipment that matches the E-class and the S-class.
For the W206, fifth-gen C-class, Mercedes has introduced new dynamic proportions, making it 65mm longer with 25mm of extra wheelbase. The new C-class sedan now sports a revised bonnet with sporty power domes and a “cab-backwards design”-themed windscreen. Additionally, the C-class also gets muscular wheel arches with an inclined rear window for enhanced sportiness and its signature grille. With a centrally-mounted, three-pointed star, the C-class also features restyled LED taillights that match the other sedans in the brand’s portfolio.
The W206 C-class features an all-new cabin design with a new dashboard that consists of two halves with round AC vents. Taking centre stage is the all-new 11.9-inch, a portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system that utilizes the latest MBUX voice-assistance system. Mercedes has also equipped the new C-Class with a driver-focussed 12.3-inch digital display that showcases valuable driving information. The new C-class also features a new steering-wheel design inspired by the S-class, along with ambient lighting across the interior.
For international markets, Mercedes offers the C-class in three variants- C 180, C 200, and C300 with downsized petrol engines. The C 180 uses a 1.5-litre, turbocharged, four-cylinder with a 48-V mild-hybrid motor, producing 170 PS and 250 Nm. Meanwhile, the C 200 uses the same powertrain setup but with uprated figures of 204 PS and 300 Nm.
The C 300, on the other hand, gets 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol with a 48-V mild-hybrid motor. It produces a 258 PS and 400 Nm via a 9-speed automatic gearbox, available across all variants. The brand also offers two diesel-powered variants – C 220d and C300d with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine, and 48-V mild-hybrid technology.
