Maruti Suzuki is planning to revamp the Celerio hatchback in the Indian market. Patent images of the next-generation model have now emerged on the internet, revealing the car’s exterior design highlights. The test mules of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio have already been photographed on public roads. But these images give pretty much all the detail as compared to the camouflage images.
According to the leaked images, the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio appears larger than the current version. The new Celerio is likely to underpin the 5th generation HEARTECT platform, and the model seems more evolved from the predecessor. The front and rear facia are entirely new. It features new almond-shaped headlamps and wraparound taillamps.
The design evolution appears to have drawn some inspiration from the Baleno hot hatch as well. However, the Celerio gets a new oval grille design and sleeker lower air intakes. The hatchback also retains the rounded fog lamps, but the bumper design appears different. The rear bumper also comes with a new shape and appears to incorporate reflector strips in the bumper. The rear windscreen also seems to be slightly raked than the current model.
Currently, spy shots of the interiors are scarce but expect slightly roomier interiors and better seat upholstery. The brand is also likely to bring a new SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system on top-of-the-line models and semi-digital instruments cluster. The hatch is also likely to come with control mounted steering wheel, power windows and USB charging. More information on the interiors is likely to emerge soon.
Powering the next-generation Celerio is likely to be the same K10B series 998cc three-cylinder engine. Maruti Suzuki evolved the engine to BS6 standard during the BS4 to BS6 transition. The liquid-cooled 12-valve aluminium type engine makes 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The next-generation Celerio is also likely to come with the Petrol+CNG bi-fuel option from the factory.
