Pratap Bose, Chief Design Officer at Mahindra and Mahindra has shared a teaser image of a new Mahindra SUV on his social media. From the looks of it, the silhouette looks like the replacement for XUV500. So what you see under the wraps here, could be the new-generation XUV500 to rival other mid-size SUVs in India.
The teaser image shows a car covered by a cover. Not much details can be made out, but it has flared rear wheel arches for sure.
Mahindra has always been strong in the SUV category of vehicles. Their last three launches – the Thar, XUV700 and the Scorpio-N have had runaway success. That said, the Indian carmaker currently lacks a formidable product in the 5-seater segment. The XUV300 is a sub 4-meter product and there is a void between it and the Scorpio / XUV700.
At the time of the XUV700 launch, it was speculated that the car would first be launched post discontinuation of the XUV500 but it would not be the replacement for the XUV500. Hence, we can now believe that this teased SUV could be the 5-seater car replacement for the XUV500.
There is currently no offering that is competition to the Hyundai Creta / Kia Seltos and the Skoda-Volkswagen twins of Taigun and Kushaq. Hence it is possible that Mahindra is looking to enter this segment with this new SUV.
Other competitors of the car include Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Mahindra’s upcoming 5-door Thar has been caught testing once again. This time around, we know that the rear seats offer decent legroom. We can also see good enough boot space on offer. The rear seats are in a 50:50 split type and are foldable.
