By now, we assume everyone is aware of a new Scorpio coming to the showrooms. The SUV is expected to be launched on 25th September, 2014. Launched way back in 2002, the Scorpio finally gets a comprehensive update and the changes include not just interior and exterior tweaks, but also mechanical and sheet metal changes.
The new Scorpio will get a new front grille, new front bumper, new headlamps, new LED tail lamps, new bonnet design, different fenders and doors. The new Scorpio is also expected to have a lowered height and a wider track which will make it more planted.
On the inside, the dashboard has been reworked completely, and there is nothing 2002 about it anymore. New instrument cluster with a MID, chrome surround on AC vents, automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment probably with navigation functionality and rear view camera, new steering wheel with integrated audio controls, conventionally placed power window controls, rear AC vents etc.
Another major change is the new body-on-frame chassis. The Scorpio will be the first Mahindra product to use this next-fen ladder chassis which uses hydroforming for better stiffness and light weight. The new chassis is expected to change the ride and handling of the Scorpio completely. Engine is expected to be carried over and will be the same 2-2L mHawk diesel engine producing 120 BHP of power. A new gearbox will be in place for better shift quality. The new 320MT gearbox is a 5-speed transmission unit.
Price of the new Scorpio is bound to demand a premium considering all the changes. Additional Rs. 30,000 – Rs 40,000 could do justice to the new model.
