New Hyundai Creta Electric spotted testing overseas

It’s not new that Hyundai is planning to introduce the new Creta in the fully-electric avatar in the Indian market. However, what’s new are the spy shots of the car from Korea. The Creta EV seen in Korea appears to be production ready, however it is still fully camouflaged hiding details on the SUV.

Hyundai Creta EV – Exteriors and Interiors

However, some details such as front fascia are clearer than what we reported before. On the front, the Hyundai Creta EV comes with a closed off grille. But, the light signatures appear similar to the new Creta. Borrowing equipment from the Creta facelift the electric version could come with a competitive price tag, thanks to the reduced production costs and streamlining of production.

The Creta EV is also likely to come with a similar rear end, but could have distinguishing features. However the electric SUV will come with aero-curtains on its wheels to improve efficiency. Interiors of the Creta EV are also likely to be similar in design. But, Hyundai could add a few differentiating elements on the dashboard, for the electric model.

Hyundai will not be using a dedicated electric platform for the Creta following suite of other manufacturers converting successful ICE vehicles to EVs. For example, the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV400 and the MG ZS EV which are converted from their ICE models – Nexon, XUV300 and MG Astor.

Hyundai Creta EV – Powerunit and Charging

Speculation is that the Creta Electric will use the power unit from the Hyundai Kona Electric. This leads us to believe that the Creta EV could use the 138 PS / 255 Nm electric motor coupled to a 45 kWh battery pack. This is likely to give the EV a range of 300 km on a single charge in the real world. The e-SUV is also likely to come with a fast charging option, however, the charging capability offered on the Creta EV is still unknown.
