Honda has unveiled the new WR-V. The second-generation WR-V looks more like an SUV than a crossover.
The new WR-V measures 4,060 mm long, 1,608 mm high and 1,780 mm wide . This makes it longer, wider and taller than the outgoing Jazz-based WR-V. It has a higher ground clearance of 220 mm than the previous WR-V. Honda says that the new WR-V has a 380-litre boot space.
In terms of similarities, the WR-V resembles the Honda Concept RS SUV. It also borrows design elements from other cars in the stable like the HR-V and the CR-V. It shares the platform used by the current-generation Amaze and the last-gen Honda City.
It gets wraparound headlights with a neatly integrated grille. The bumper gets a wide airdam. The windows are large with sharply raked windscreens on both ends, a prominent shoulder line and thick cladding on the lower part of the car. It could get 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels. The C-pillar gets a forward raked design which is matched with the rear windscreen. It gets slim tail lights.
The new WR-V SUV is offered with two options – WR-V E gets a more sober styling with 16-inch alloys while the sportier WR-V RS gets 17-inchers, red highlights, new grilled and all-black interiors. Dual tone option is offered only with the RS. It gets analogue dials with a 4.2-inch MID. The WR-V will also get remote engine start and AC on the top variants.
Honda now offers six airbags, the Honda Sensing safety bundle that includes lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and auto high beam assist.
Honda is offering a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns our 121 HP and 145 Nm of torque. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The same is offered in the new City on sale in India.
As the new WR-V is longer in size than the outgoing car, expect it to compete with the likes of the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara and the Hyryder in India. There is, however, no official date on its launch in India.
In the Indonesian market, the car is priced from INR 14,39,000. In comparison, the Honda City sells at INR 19,34,000 in Indonesia.
