Its been close to six years since the second generation Honda Amaze has been selling in India. The third generation Amaze was supposed to make its debut before the festive season hit India. However, reports suggest that the updated Amaze will now come in December 2024.
The third generation Amaze will supposedly be a ground up new model. The platform will be a modified version of the City and the Elevate. However, the wheelbase will shorter than that of the City and the Elevate. This would also mean that Honda will use only one platform for all their current India models.
In terms of design, the Amaze will get a new look that will resemble its bigger siblings. Expect it to borrow design cues from the current City and the Accord. Also, we can expect the design to be modern and stylish.
Inside, we can expect premium interiors like the Honda Elevate. The Amaze might also get a floating infotainment display borrowed from the Elevate. Expect the car to be equipped with safety and features borrowed from the City and the Elevate.
We do not expect any changes to the powertrain. It will come with the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor that makes 90 hp of power and 110 Nm of torque. This will be mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. To keep things interesting Honda might include a 48V mild-hybrid system with the new Amaze. Since Honda has already stopped production of diesel engines in India, it is safe to assume that the upcoming Amaze will not get one.
In terms of competition. The Honda Amaze goes up against the Hyundai Aura, the Tata Tigor and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The Dzire is due for an update too after the new Swift and it will hit roads during the festive season.
