The upcoming Kia Sonet facelift has been spotted testing for the first time in India. Earlier leaked images were from overseas locations, but now, we can say that the Korean carmaker is getting ready to launch the car in India anytime soon.
The upcoming Sonet will feature extensive changes to the front and rear for the sub-4m SUV. These could include new headlamps, DRLs and a new bumper design. Kia might change the grille as well. Overall, the car might look more sporty than before. That said, the test mule was camouflaged hence getting more details is difficult at this stage.
On the sides, there are minimal changes. The overall profile is maintained and new changes might include a chrome window lining and different alloy wheel design amongst others. Notice the red brake callipers as well. This could imply that the car is of the GT line.
At the back, Kia is trying hard to keep the car covered, but we can notice a few details. These include a full-width LED strip, new tail lamps and possibly a dual tone bumper.
Insides is where we can expect major changes. Like the elder sibling, expect the Sonet to get dual 10.25 inch screen, new upholstery, a dashcam and 360-degree cameras. Current features like the Bose audio, wireless charger and front ventilated seats could be carried forward.
Kia is not expected to make any changes to the powertrain of the Sonet. Kia currently offers 3 engine options. These include the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine good for 83 HP, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol developing 120 HP and a 115 HP 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed iMT, 6-speed automatic and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.
While Kia has planned a 2024 launch for the compact SUV, competitors like Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza have already launched updated versions or will soon launch them. Hence, looking at market conditions, Kia might prepone the launch of the Sonet.
