In December 2022, Maruti had updated the infotainment of the Baleno. The Baleno Zeta and Alpha variants got the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality along with turn-by-turn navigation for the heads-up display and MID. Now, the Indian carmaker has introduced two new safety features across the Baleno Range.
Maruti Suzuki has added two new safety features to the 2023 Baleno range. These will be available as standard across all the variants of the premium hatchback. These features are the ESP and Hill Hold. It is noteworthy to mention that usually these features are available only on the higher trims. But somehow, Maruti has managed to offer these important features right from the entry level trim.
One of the main functions of the Electronic Stability Program is to mitigate the risk of skidding. Under unsuitable conditions, the system takes over the functions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) as well as the traction control and counteracts the vehicle skidding movements in a fraction of a second. This improves the overall safety while driving.
According to Bosch, the ESP control module compares the movement of the vehicles with the desired direction of travel 25 times per second. ESP is also responsible for preventing over 80 percent of skidding accidents.
The Hill Hold prevents rollback of the car when starting off from an incline.
Powering the 2022 Baleno is a 1.2-litre, Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine with mild-hybrid technology. Overall, this motor produces 90 PS and 113 Nm via a 5-speed manual or 5-speed, Automated Manual Transmission (AGS). The automaker has also equipped the Baleno with an Idle Start/Stop system that allows it to showcase best-in-class mileage figures. Maruti Suzuki claims that the manual variant offers 22.35 kmpl of mileage, whereas the AGS variant offers 22.94 kmpl.
