MY23 Mahindra Thar prices go up by INR 1.05 lakh

Bad news for the ones looking to get the Mahindra Thar. As per reports, Mahindra & Mahindra has hiked the price of its Thar range. The SUV has now become expensive by up to INR 1.05 lakh. The price hike comes as a result of Mahindra Thar getting the BS6 Phase 2 update and the RDE emission norms.

What Are The Prices Like After The Hike?

With this price hike in effect, the Thar X (O) Hard Top Diesel MT RWD variant will now retail at INR 55,000 more. Meanwhile, the Mahindra Thar LX Hard Top Diesel MT RWD variant has gotten expensive by INR 1.05 lakh. Other variants of the Mahindra Thar SUV have got a price hike of about INR 28,000.

The updated price of Mahindra Thar SUV’s top-spec LX Hardtop Diesel AT 4WD starts from INR 16.77 lakh (ex-showroom). Noteworthy to mention that the price of the base variant remains the same at INR 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra Planning A New Entry-Level Model For Thar

As we understand, Mahindra is reportedly planning to introduce a new variant of Thar. According to a leaked RTO document, there’s an entry-level Thar 4×4 variant – AX (AC) coming in. This model positions itself below the existing AX (O) variant. Once launched, the model will most likely take on the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny that we saw at the Auto Expo 2023.

Mahindra Thar 4×4 AX (AC) variant will benefit from front-facing second-row seats. In fact, it is rumoured to get both a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. Since this will come in as an entry-level model, we expect the model to miss some features that are available on other variants.

More Colours For Mahindra Thar

Recently, the company brought in two new colour options for Mahindra Thar 4WD. Customers can now have the SUV in, Everest White and Blazing Bronze. These were earlier available for the 2WD model only. With the new additions, Mahindra Thar 4WD is now available in six colours. These are Napoli Black, Everest White, Blazing Bronze, Red Rage, Aqua Marine, and Galaxy Grey.
