Husqvarna first introduced the Vitpilen and Svartpilen models back in 2021. Hence, it has been 2 years since they got any major updates. As 2023 model years bikes have already started to come out, it seems as if Husqvarna also wants to join them. New spy shots have appeared online showing Husqvarna testing the 2023 Svartpilen 125 overseas. The bike is undisguised and shows us quite a few details of the next-generation Husqvarna.
From what we can see, the 2023 Husqvarna Svartpilen will get a host of changes on the outside. The first noticeable difference is the addition of a flyscreen or a cowl at the front. This sits above the headlight and looks similar to the one on the Norden 901.
Mechanically, the front seems to continue using upside-down forks by WP. However, the new design for the front mudguard covers most of the fork for protection. The side guards and especially the tank extensions are also bigger than before. Husqvarna also seems to be taking this update as an opportunity to update the Svartpilen’s instrument console. It could get a TFT display like the Duke 125, but it’s too early to say.
Moving to the back, the rear frame appears to be longer and flatter. The seat is also longer than before, making the 2023 Svartpilen look much more proportionate. The longer frame and seat will also help with pillion comfort. Additionally, unlike the outgoing model’s rear hugger, the 2023 model uses a more conventional rear fender. While the headlight seems to carry the same design, the taillight has grown in size.
Interestingly, Husqvarna could also launch a more road-focused version of the Svartpilen 125. Another test mule that was spotted was seen using alloy wheels that are directly lifted from the new KTMs.
The Svartpilen will continue to use a black-coloured steel trellis frame, a raised handlebar and dual-purpose knobby tyres. The motorcycle sports a modern-retro theme which is evident from its LED turn signals and round mirrors. As for the engine, the Svartpilen 125 could continue using the same 125cc 4-valve DOHC engine as before. The engine is already Eur0 5-compliant. Thus, there’s no need for Husqvarna to make any changes.
The model could make its global debut sometime later in the year. Though Husqvarna never sold the 125cc Svartpilen in India, the brand could bring it to India since the 125cc Duke and RC seem to have received a good market response.
