Toyota has hiked the prices of the brand’s flagship SUV, the Fortuner, in the Indian market. The Toyota Fortuner and the Fortuner Legender have both received a massive price hike for 2022. The Toyota Fortuner in the 4×2 variant comes with a price hike of INR 66,000 on the ex-showroom price. While 4×4 variants see a hike of around INR 1.10 lakh on the ex-showroom price.
Due to this, the Fortuner now starts with a price tag of INR 31.39 lakh ex-showroom. The Fortuner Legender with the 4×2 drivetrain comes with a price of INR 39.71 lakh ex-showroom. While the 4×4 version of the flagship Legender comes with a price tag of INR 43.43 lakh ex-showroom, after the whopping increase by INR 1.10 lakh. The hike in the price is likely to be due to the increase in the production cost, cost of commodity and freight.
Apart from the price hike, there appear no changes in the trim or any mechanical changes. The SUV still retains the 2.7-litre petrol engine. The engine makes 164 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The Fortuner Legender features a 2.8-litre four-cylinder in-line diesel engine. The 16-valve DOHC engine comes with a Variable Nozzle Turbocharger with an Intercooler that produces 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. The 2.8-litre diesel also comes with 420 Nm of torque on mid-spec models. However, the brand only offers a 4×4 driveline on diesel engines.
Toyota is also planning to introduce the Hilux pick-up truck in the Indian market. The brand will retail the car as a lifestyle SUV which will rival the likes of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Hilux is likely to be underpinned by the same platform and chassis as the Innova and Fortuner and also use the same engines to maintain the economies of scale and be able to offer a viable product at a relatively affordable price tag.
