Royal Enfield could be planning to upgrade the popular Interceptor 650 motorcycle for 2022. The brand is likely to offer the new Interceptor with an upgraded exhaust. The exhaust design in question appears to be a single-sided setup. According to spy pictures, the brand could be testing a two-into-one exhaust system which is likely to go into production next year. The new exhaust system appears to get a stubby and upswept can with the front manifold routed from the right-hand side of the motorcycle.
The development mule of the new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 appears to get a canister style catalytic converter, one for each pipe. The exhaust also features a catalytic converter under the engine just before the exhaust end can. This leads us to believe that the new exhaust will conform to the current emission norms as well as will be ready for emission norms of the near future. Expect the exhaust to be lighter than the twin exhaust setup. The new exhaust will also allow the rider to easily manoeuvre the motorcycle in tight spots. The new exhaust is also likely to be more sonorous and compared to the twin pipes. Also, expect a small bump in the performance.
Powering the Interceptor 650 is a 648cc air/oil-cooled parallel-twin-cylinder engine. The engine features twin throttle bodies and a Bosch electronic fuel injection system. The twin-cylinder engine produces 47 Bhp of power and 52 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper assist clutch. Royal Enfield offers a twin-cradle tubular steel frame designed by Harris Performance. The bike rides on a 41mm conventional telescopic front fork and twin shock absorbers on the rear. The bike features a single 320mm disc brake on the front and also a 240mm rear disc brake.
