Honda has introduced the new Honda Super Cub 125 in the European market. The 2022 Super Cub 125 comes with a new Euro5 compliant engine. The motorcycle also gets pillion pads and footpegs as standard fit, and tweaks to the suspension. The new motorcycle also comes with evolutionary features but carries over the timeless design into the 21st century, just as Soichiro and Takeo would have wanted.
Powering the new Honda Super Cub is a Euro5 compliant 124cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. But comes with redesigned crankcases from the current Japanese-market C110. Honda also derives the SOHC two-valve cylinder head from the Honda MSX Grom. The brand employs a new airbox, new connecting tube and new injector position, smoothening the airflow and driveability.
The engine also comes with a new ACG (Alternating Current Generator) with increased output and a single, more efficient catalyser instead of the previous two. The ECU (Engine Control Unit) programming is also tweaked on the new Super Cub 125 to maximise performance and efficiency. The Super Cub now delivers 9.6 Hp of power and 10.4 Nm of torque and comes with the same 4-speed gearbox operated via an ‘automatic’ centrifugal clutch. The Super Cub claims to deliver 1.5litres/100km (66.7km/l) (WMTC mode).
The Honda Super Cub 125 features a tubular steel ‘backbone’ frame, carefully balanced around the headstock and between the engine mounting points. The motorcycle rides on telescopic forks with new springs improving control and offer 100mm of travel. The rear features new twin shocks with new springs and bump-stop material. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels shod in 70/90 front and 80/90 rear tubeless tyres. For braking the SSuper Cub 125 gets a 220mm hydraulic disc brake on the front and a 110mm mechanical drum brake on the rear. The Honda Super Cub 125 tips the scales at just 110 kg at the kerb.
The Honda Super Cub 125 comes with features such as all-LED lighting in true contemporary fashion. The instruments cluster is an analogue-digital unit with needle plus warning lights on the outer ring and a digital display on the inside, separated by two lenses and dual chrome rings. The motorcycle also gets Honda Smart Key with an immobiliser and an ‘answer back’ function.
