Mass recall for Honda scooters & motorcycles, including Goldwing

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India PVT LTD has issued recalls to multiple vehicles mentioned under their service campaign. According to the company’s website, customer’s can check if their vehicles are affected by the recall by entering their VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on Honda’s website. The motorcycles and scooters affected by the recall are Honda Activa 125 BS6, Activa 5G/Dio, Activa 125, Grazia, Aviator, CB Shine and a GL 1800 Goldwing whose VIN number has been mentioned on the company’s website.

According to Honda the cooling fan cover and the oil gauge on the Honda Activa 125 BS6 needs to be replaced. This will be carried out by the company on a free of charge basis and the overall process from rectification to replacement should take approximately 30 minutes as per the brand. Honda will also update the vehicle owner’s manual during the recall campaign.

The Honda Activa 5G and Dio have also been recalled for inaccurate reading displayed by the fuel gauge and therefore Honda would like to inspect the fuel gauge and if necessary repair the same. The inspection of the fuel gauge and repair is free of charge and will take approximately 1 hour to do so. In some cases the complete speedometer assembly may also be replaced.

Honda has also recognised and presumes a quality concern in the Front Brake Master Cylinder which may cause difficulty in the front wheel rotation and could lead to jam the front wheel in extreme conditions. A few units of the CB Shine motorcycle, Activa 125, Aviator and Grazia are likely to have this issue. As a precautionary measure, Honda will inspect these scooters and motorcycles and replace the part if required, free of cost irrespective of the vehicles warranty status.

It is also being brought to notice that a single December 2013 model Honda GL 1800 Goldwing in India bearing the VIN number – ‘JH2SC68C8EK200032’ has been identified to have an issue with its frontal airbag inflator. According to Honda, the frontal airbag inflator may rupture during deployment and this could occur due to prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity conditions. Honda will be replacing the airbag module free of charge at the Honda Wing World.

Honda scooter and motorcycle owners can log onto Honda’s website and find out if their vehicle is affected by the recall by entering the VIN number in the portal.
