Moto Morini has revealed a new version of the X-Cape 650 motorcycle. The ADV-R is an off-road focused version of the bike, which was showcased at the 2022 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy. The X-Cape ADV-R is a more extreme rally version of the X-Cape adventure tourer.
The bike has the same overall chassis and features as the standard X-Cape 650. However, it comes with lots of off-road based changes and a new kit. For starters, the seat now gets better ergonomics, brake discs are covered, the wheels are replaced with golden spoke rims with meaty, knobby tyres, and the bike now comes with an aluminium belly pan and full crash guards.
Complementing all these new features is the SC Project exhaust system. The bike also comes with a Garmin GPS-based navigation system that can be used to track and navigate off-road trails.
The X-Cape ADV-R comes with a fully adjustable Marzocchi suspension at the front and back. It also gets a 7-inch TFT display for driver information.
Moto Morini has retained the 649cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine from the standard bike. It puts out 60 HP. A six-speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheel.
While the showcased bike was a one-off unit, it could do well in the market if launched. Moto Morini has yet to reveal any production plans for the X-Cape ADV-R. Competition like Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM 890 Adventure R could possibly tempt the bike maker to launch the ADV-R as a new variant of the X-Cape.
Moto Morini has a vibrant history. The brand came out with its first bike back in 1946. After closing down engine production in 1987, the company closed down in 1999, when spare parts and prototypes were sold to individual buyers. The company was revived in 2003 by Maurizio Morini, Franco’s son and, for many years, the head of the company. He involved the Berti family in relaunching the project. Moto Morini Spa was founded with Lambertini as head of the technical department.
