JSW MG Motor India has announced a substantial price reduction for its popular MG ZS EV. The new pricing strategy, coupled with an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program has reduced the cost of acquisition of the ZS EV considerably.
The MG ZS EV, which was previously priced significantly higher, is now available at an attractive ex-showroom price of INR 13.99 lakh. This price drop is expected to make the ZS EV a more viable option for a broader range of consumers, particularly those who were previously deterred by the high upfront costs associated with electric vehicles.
One of the most noteworthy aspects of this new pricing model is the introduction of the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. Under this scheme, customers can purchase the MG ZS EV at the reduced price and opt for a battery rental plan instead of buying the battery outright. The battery rental is priced at INR 4.5 per kilometer. This pay-as-you-go model significantly lowers the initial cost of the vehicle, making it more affordable for consumers.
The BaaS program offers several advantages:
The MG ZS EV is equipped with a 50.3 kWh battery pack, offering a commendable range of 461 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it an ideal choice for both city commutes and longer journeys. The vehicle also comes with a host of advanced features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a comprehensive suite of safety features.
The introduction of the BaaS program and the subsequent price reduction is expected to have a significant impact on the Indian EV market. By lowering the entry barrier, MG Motor India is likely to attract a larger customer base, thereby accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
