JSW MG Motor India has officially launched its latest electric vehicle, the MG Windsor EV, at an attractive starting price of INR 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch marks a significant milestone for the company, especially following its recent joint venture with JSW Steel, which now holds a 35% stake in MG Motor India.
One of the standout features of the MG Windsor EV is its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. This model allows customers to rent the battery at a cost of INR 3.5 per kilometer, significantly reducing the initial purchase price of the vehicle. This approach not only makes the Windsor EV more affordable but also addresses concerns about battery longevity and replacement costs.
The MG Windsor EV is available in three variants: Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. Each variant offers a range of features designed to enhance the driving experience. The vehicle boasts a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice recognition in six languages, and a digital driver’s display. Additionally, it includes a 9-speaker audio system, steering-mounted e-shifters, rear AC vents, and power-adjustable seats.
The Windsor EV features a distinctive AeroGlide design with a high-set bonnet and a full-width LED light bar at both the front and rear. It also includes vertically stacked LED headlamps, squarish LED tail lamps, and an illuminated MG logo on the front. The vehicle rides on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and has flush door handles. With a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, length of 4,250 mm, a width of 1,850 mm, and a height of 1,677 mm, the Windsor EV offers ample space.
Inside, the Windsor EV impresses with its Knight Black interiors accented with gold highlights. It offers Aero-Lounge seats with up to 135-degree multi-step recline, LED ambient lighting with 256 color options, and airline-style reclining seats in the second row. The 60:40 rear seat split expands the spacious 604-litre boot capacity, making it ideal for family trips and long journeys.
The MG Windsor EV is powered by a 38 kWh battery, providing a range of up to 331 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it a practical choice for both city commutes and longer drives. The vehicle’s powertrain produces 136 hp and 200 mm of torque.
At this price, the Windor EV goes head to head with the Tata Punch.EV and the Tata Nexon.EV. However given its size, it also rivals the recently launched Curvv.EV. Pre-bookings for the MG Windsor EV have already commenced, with exclusive test drives starting from September 25th. Official bookings will open on October 3rd, and deliveries are scheduled to begin from October 12th.
