MG Windsor EV – First Drive Review

Written by Parichay Malvankar

MG Motor India launched the new Windsor EV in the Indian market with a starting price of INR 9.99 lakh ex-showroom. MG Motor India positions the MG Windsor EV as an intelligent CUV, a Crossover Utility Vehicle and claims that the Windsor EV blends the best of both world’s. It is as comfortable as a an SUV with all the features and premium styling that are typically associated with a sedan. In this video, we bring to you all the details that you need to know about the MG Windsor EV, so you can make an informed buying decision.

What is BAAS?

So let’s start with BAAS. The electric crossover comes with BAAS, which is Battery As A Service. In simple terms, BAAS means that you only own the car and not the battery. The customer has to pay INR 3.5 for every kilometer, that they drive, in their MG Windsor EV. Under BAAS, the battery is essentially rented to the customer at the aforementioned price per kilometer and it comes with benefits such as a lifetime warranty for the first buyer.

In addition to this, MG Motor India claims that BAAS is more affordable than fuel that one will anyways have to shell out when buying an ICE vehicle. Also, the lifetime and unlimited km warranty offers a complete peace of mind to the customer. BAAS is offered with various schemes and the customer can choose to either use the service in pay-as-you-go or a billing cycle. More details on this are available at your MG Motor India Dealerships. In the near future, MG Motor India is also likely to bring the MG Windsor EV without the BAAS as a full package for you to buy.

Powertrain & Range

Powering the MG Windsor EV is a 136 PS permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that delivers 200 Nm of torque. The electric motor is coupled to a 38 kWh battery pack that claims to deliver a range of 331 km on a single charge. However, on our spirited drive, which included several 0-100 kmph tests as well as some high speed driving the EV still returned a range of about 310 km on a single charge. Driving in a conservative manner, the MG Windsor EV is likely to return the claimed range with ease.
