Written by Nizam Shaikh

MG has revealed the new MG4 EV in images ahead of its launch scheduled for September in the UK market. Earlier, the brand revealed the MG4 EV in the form of the MG Mulan, which will become an all-new global car. The brand plans to sell the pure electric vehicle in the Chinese, European and Asian markets. The Mulan moniker is likely to be used for the Chinese markets, while the MG4 EV is for European as well as other Asian countries.

MG4 EV – Modular Scalable Platform

MG revealed that the new MG4 EV will underpin the brand’s innovative Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). This state-of-the-art battery architecture will also underpin the next-generation MG models. MG designed the MSP for use in multiple vehicle types, which range from hatchbacks to SUVs. The platform’s flexibility also allows the brand to use it for sports cars. According to MG, the MSP is suitable for wheelbase ranging from 2,650 to 3,100 mm. MG also reveals that the new integrated battery structure has a height of just 110mm. This helps the vehicle offer enhanced road-holding and driver engagement.

MG4 EV – Details

The MG4 EV will come with the MSP architecture offering an enhanced driving experience. Thanks to the new rear-wheel-drive platform, the MG4 EV also comes with a 50:50 weight distribution. The brand optimised the platform to maximise battery efficiency by reducing weight and also improving the scalable range of the vehicle. Thanks to the innovative architecture, the MG4 EV will also come with enhanced interior space and luggage capacity.

Powering the MG4 EV will be a battery pack ranging from 51 kWh to 64 kWh allowing the capability to traverse from 350 km on a single charge to 452 km on a single charge on the WLTP cycle. The electric vehicle will also be capable of supporting technologies such as battery swap systems, making it future-proof. In addition to this, MG also revealed that the EV will also support Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) that will enable the car to receive Over-The-Air (OTA) updates throughout its lifecycle.

The brand will soon announce more details on the MG4 EV, including full specifications and UK pricing.
