MG prepares 50 KW DC fast-charging EV stations for eZS SUV

MG Motors is planning to launch the eZS all-electric SUV later this year in India and the brand has now announced an association with Finland-based clean energy giant, Fortum to install the country’s first 50 kW DC fast-charging EV station. The charging station will be installed ahead of the electric SUVs launch which shows the brand’s commitment toward sustainable mobility. The charging infrastructure is particularly important as range anxiety will be the most important factor and will largely influence the buying decision.

Fortum will install 50 kW CCS/CHAdeMO DC fast charging stations for electric vehicles which can be accessed by registering with Fortum Charge & Drive via its mobile app. The charging stations will be set up in 5 cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad by September this year. One before-mentioned charging station will be set up at the brand’s flagship showroom in Gurugram. The Smart chargers can be used by registered users with CCS/CHAdeMO compatible vehicles.

MG had unveiled the MG eZS electric SUV last year at the Guangzhou Motor Show and the brand plans to launch this all-electric SUV in India by the end of this year. This will most likely become the second SUV from the MG line up to come to India after the MG Hector. The EV is already on test across the country and is currently being tested in different environments that it will encounter in different parts of the country.

In the powertrain department, the MG eZS is expected to be powered by a 150 HP electric motor which can propel the car from 0-50 kmph in just 3.1 seconds and can deliver a range of 335 Km on a single charge as per NEDC cycle. This configuration is on the Chinese-spec electric SUV and is likely to be retained for India.

The company has confirmed that the MG eZS will come with a full-sized boot and a room for five people and will have the practicality of a compact-SUV with an environmentally-friendly zero emission powertrain.

The all-electric eZS will rival the Hyundai Kona Electric which is likely to be launched soon.
