Morris Garages has filed a new design patent in India. The patent is related to the Baojun Yep. According to media reports, the carmaker could launch the car in the second half of 2025.
The Yep is an all-electric micro SUV. It was unveiled in China just a while back. Based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, the Baojun Yep shares its underpinnings with MG’s Comet EV as well.
In terms of looks, the car appears to bear resemblance to the Maruti Jimny. It gets a 3-door layout with vertical fascia and flared wheel arches. The headlight design appears to be a combination of DRLs and LED main lights. The front bumper gets a dual tone appearance.
There is a 28.1 kWh battery in the Baojun Yelp. A single electric motor drives the rear wheel. It is rated at 67 BHP and 140 Nm of peak torque. According to the specifications, the car has a claimed range of 303 km on a single charge (CLTC).
MG Motor India has recently released the sales performance during the first half of 2023. The carmaker sold over 29,000 vehicles in India, which marks a significant 21 per cent growth compared to the 24,000 units sold in the same period the previous year.
The company attributes this impressive growth to the successful launch of the Next-Gen variant of India’s first internet SUV, the MG Hector, in January. Additionally, there has been strong demand for their flagship electric vehicle, the MG ZS. This has also contributed substantially to the overall sales increase. Notably, the company achieved its highest retail sales of 6,051 units in March 2023. Thus demonstrating the popularity of its offerings in the Indian market.
MG could be looking an brining in more products and could be considering expanding its electric portfolio in India.
